New OpenCart 4.1.0.0 release – what has changed?

Everyone had been waiting for the new OpenCart 4.1.0.0 version for over a year, and now it is finally here. We see significant improvements and fixes that make the platform more stable and convenient to use. The OpenCart 4.1.0.0 release brings several important changes, updates, and fixes that enhance the system's functionality. Below you can review what is new in OpenCart 4.1.0.0, and our catalog already offers many modules for OpenCart 4.

What's new in OpenCart 4.1.0.0:

Added:

  1. OCMOD
The OCMOD modification system, which allows you to make changes to the code without directly editing the files, is back! This greatly simplifies module integration and customization.

  2. Blog
A basic blog system has been introduced, allowing you to create content directly inside your store. This opens up new opportunities for SEO and customer engagement.

  3. French language
OpenCart now supports French localization, making the platform more accessible to users from French-speaking countries.

Updated:

  1. Order editor
The order editing system has been reworked, providing a more convenient and intuitive editing process.

Fixed:

  1. Subscriptions system
Issues with subscription processing have been fixed, and this feature is now more stable and reliable.

Other changes:

  1. Performance improvements

    • Optimization of SQL queries.
    • Improved performance when using APCu caching.
  2. New features and fixes

    • Added support for SSL connections for MySQL.
    • Updated CKEditor with additional settings.
    • Added a new blog module for the homepage.
  3. Compatibility with modern PHP versions

    • Fixed compatibility issues with PHP 8.0 and above.
    • Fixes for using PostgreSQL with PHP 8.1+.
    • Adoption of modern PHP functions such as str_contains.
  4. Cosmetic changes

    • Improved code formatting.
    • Removed extra whitespace, duplicate lines, and unused variables.
  5. Developer tools

    • Added a Docker-Compose environment for development.
    • Updated AWS SDK and Twig libraries to the latest versions.
  6. Admin interface

    • Improved filters in product and category listings.
    • Fixed an issue with switching languages in the admin panel.

We expected that starting with OpenCart 4.1.0.0 the system would be compatible with PHP 7.4+, but during development the maintainers decided not to lower the PHP version requirement, because most of the libraries in use are gradually dropping support for that version. In the new CMS version, the minimum PHP requirement is 8.0+.

From now on OpenCart 4 has become better, faster, and is almost ready for building a modern online store. In the near future we expect a 4.1.0.1 patch release that will fix minor issues. It is already being prepared, as can be seen from the GitHub repository. In the meantime, you can download the new 4.1.0.0 version from the official OpenCart website. As soon as the patch is released, you will be able to update to the latest version in one click.
